If I were to suggest that between Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. I'm a secular humanist of the New Atheist school and a former Protestant Christian. Politically, I'm an Independent, a social liberal and moderate economic conservative. I live and work in the context of a conservative and religious culture and family, which makes the personal and social costs of open apostasy impracticable. That's why I don't post my name, photo, or my own videos. And no, I don't hate religious people; everyone in my family is religious. But I regard religion as patently false and absurd--and, on balance, oppressive and bad for society.
