Requiring explanation when science has yet to resolve an issue is like evoking Santa [as from the song] whenever stumped.
My life would not be worth living if I had all the answers. It is the wonder, the challenge of discovery that keeps me going.

At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell.
There is only our natural world.
Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.
[from a placard in the Oregon Statehouse 2008]

The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weakness, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still purely primitive, legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.
-1954 Albert Einstein [letter]

Never would I claim that those with religion are stupid. I do not believe in evolution, nor do believe in the non-existence of god. I am satisfied to date with a preponderance of evidence for evolution, and lack of any evidence for god; both as collected by scientific method. I will proceed as though my positions are sound, under the best scientific evidence.

Further religion [not god] is eminently destructive to peace among peoples of the world; producing a neo-tribal behavior. 'We' subjugate or destroy those not in our 'tribe', those competing for the same resources.

So those who follow religion are not stupid, but contribute dangerously to strife in the modern world.Additionally those following a religion often waste resources that could better serve the needy more directly, e.g. monasteries, missionaries, radio a& TV broadcasting, and much more. Moreover the religious often struggle against evidence, & progress found through science.

So they are not stupid; just intellectually lazy, misguided, wasteful, and if not actively dangerous to world peace are at least enabling those who endanger us.

scotttebben: happily I did not receive indoctrination, and never took it more seriously than Santa.
I did attend church as my mother was a social christian, attending more for good community than belief, while my father, a deist quaker never pushed the point.

Christians proselytise their delusion by spreading fear, ignorance, intolerance, bigotry and cruelty in the name of a loving Jesus. Christianity revels in ignorance and names it virtuous faith. It wallows in self righteousness and calls it humility. These deluded imbeciles actually believe it is morally acceptable to lie to children by telling them believing in nonsense is divine truth but only for the Jesus, and Yahweh fairytale and not any other. All other gods are myths but theirs. The simple fact that all religions must inculcate the young with it's doctrine, principle, or ideology is clear evidence that this very dogma cannot be taken on its own merits. It is therefore a false belief. If the theists tenets were true, children would not require indoctrination. They would discover said truth the same way they discover reality for themselves. Human interaction and investigation of our world. No brainwashing required.
