@termilane No we dont say in stead of Muhammed (pbuh) imam Ali. We say lā ʾilāha ʾillallāh, Muḥammad rasūlu-llāh wa ʿAli-yyun-yyu-llāh. This means There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God and Ali is the wali (viceregent) of God.
