Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ci grew up immersed in music. A father and an uncle who rapped and an uncle who made a living as a jazz bassist made it easy for Ci to foster a deep love for music. He fell in love with hip-hop at a young age and loved to listen to the stories that were told by different artists. As he grew older and began to understand more and more the words that were being spoken, he started to lean towards songs that were lyrically complex. In the late 1990s some of his favorite artists were Canibus, Big Pun, Notorious BIG, Tupac, Eminem, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, among others.
