"No, it does not fit like an old style HT lead, but there should be a spring in the coil to make a good connection between the coil and plug."

Memory savers are useful to have but not essential if you have radio codes and alarm key fobs etc. Factory fitted immobilizers will work fine after a battery disconnect.
The best memory savers will have a led that will illuminate when you first connect the saver to the car, this will confirm that you are connected, they will also have a meter/LED that tells you the memory savers battery is good. Be sure not open doors when disconnecting the battery as the load can cause the memory savers overload trip to disconnect the memory saver.

New cars require the use of a memory saver to make sure you do not loose the codes for the radio or seat and anti-theft codes. What is the proper procedure in utiling a memory saver and what is the best one to buy so mistakes are not made.

Have a Clio 2 2003 1.2 16 valve dynamique. Problems started with 50% reduced power, max rpm 3500. Suspected air leak or fuel pressure .I have removed manifold and checked all pipes, no leak. Checked fuel tank filter, clear and good fuel pressure. Engine hardly starts now, only runs badly for a minute and stops. Checked the system for faults with expensive Snap-On computer, just showed that I had unplugged various items so cleared these. The check engine light has not come on at any stage during the problem and investigation. Checked the dash warning light symbols by pressing the left stalk button and switching on, they all illuminated. Got a new coil pack and plugs, no improvement. Removed new plugs after 3 starts, totally blackened all plugs, checked spark strength, very weak. As the coil and plugs are good, I checked the crank position sensor as per ask the mechanic video, 225 ohms, where should I look next?

Sounds like a component being affected by heat (crankshaft sensor etc), you would really need to get the fault codes read. A clue that it could be the crankshaft sensor would be the rev counter dropping before the engine has stopped turning.
