About this user

Dwight Antonio Owens, M.D. is a native of Atlanta, who practices in the heart of this city. After completing his Bachelor's degree at Morehouse College (Atlanta, Ga), he attended the Health Science Center at Syracuse for his Medical Doctorate and Residency in Psychiatry. In 1998, Dr. Owens attended Emory University's Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program, completing his formal medical training.

Returning to Atlanta to begin a career working with both the general adult and forensic populations, Dr. Owens started as a staff psychiatrist in the Fulton County Dept. of MH/DD/AD. In a short period of time, he was appointed Medical Director and continued his remaining 5 years of service in the public sector. He also served as an adjunct Clinical Professor for the Morehouse School of Medicine's Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Owens continues to provide forensic and psychiatric services in Georgia and surrounding states working as a Medical Director of his own practice, Peachstate Psychiatric Services. He provides expert services ranging from testimony and written reports for litigation, to a few death penalty cases. Focusing on both adolescents and the general adult population for comprehensive psychiatric medical services, he has a special interest in working with at risk African-American males with mental illness. Part time, Dr. Owens worked for the Joint Commission for 5 years as a physician surveyor and continues to serve US Veterans through QTC Medical Services. He consults, teaches, and provides seminars for a number of firms on a local, state, and national level.

Dr. Owens has received numerous prestigious awards beginning in 1997 with the Resident Research Award in Psychiatry presented in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, USA at the Black Psychiatrist's of America Spring Conference. He was honored with the Eleventh Annual Chester M. Pierce, M.D., Sc.D. Award in New Orleans, LA, in 1998 during the National Medical Association's summer meeting. In 1999, he was honored with the Ernest Y. Williams Clinical Scholar of Distinction Award in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

His current affiliations include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, 100 Black Men of South Metro, the National Medical Association, the American Medical Association, Ordained Elder in the National Churches of God in Christ, Black Psychiatrists of Atlanta and a member of the Atlanta Society Club. His current listings include Cambridge Who's Who in 2007, the Patients' Choice Award, 2008 and is listed in Kipling's Who's Who in leading Business Professionals in 2009.
