About Ashermans
This channel is devoted to promoting awareness about the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of intrauterine adhesions (IUA) also known as Asherman's 'syndrome' (AS), a form of secondary infertility. Most cases (over 90%) are caused by D&C, still considered standard care for miscarriage management in many countries.
Asherman's syndrome is characterized by adhesions and/or fibrosis inside the uterus which result from the healing of scarred endometrial tissue usually caused by medical instrumentation.
The presence of adhesions and/or fibrosis leads to secondary infertility characterized by a reduction in menstrual flow often accompanied by pain. Some sufferers experience repeated unexplained miscarriages or complications at delivery due to invasive placenta.
Treatment is by hysteroscopic adhesiolysis but for those with more severe damage the live birth rate is around 40%. Therefore prevention should be actively promoted by reducing unnecessary D&Cs or replacing surgery with uterotonic drugs or hysteroscopic surgery.
I am responsible for the information and views reflected in the clips which are based on an extensive review of the medical literature and my own personal experience.
The channel is not affiliated with the Ashermans.org/Yahoo patient support group.
