Within the Archdiocese of Toronto, you will find a family of faith that is alive and at work within our community of nearly 1.7 Million Catholics, 225 parishes and 4 missions.
Established in 1841, essentially for the Irish and Anglo-Saxon Catholics, the Archdiocese grew as a multicultural mosaic of ethnicities and denominations. This growth was fuelled after WWII with large numbers of overseas immigrants.
The Archdiocese covers a geographic region of the Great Lakes area, about 13,000 sq. kilometres, from the shores of Lake Ontario north to Georgian Bay.
It includes the City of Toronto, the most populous metropolis in the country and the growing regional municipalities of Peel, York and Durham that surround the City. The northern section of the Archdiocese, Simcoe County, is also experiencing notable suburban growth. To accommodate the diversity of nationalities wishing to practice their faith, the Archdiocese offers religious services in a variety of languages.
