I read somewhere that on January 1st, all YouTube accounts will be switched over to the new design. From what I have been told, the option to keep the old design is only temporary.

One thing I liked about the new interface, even though I had to change back to old platform, was the fact that you can more or less change your username, but changing the description of your channel (I think it is that).
