Note: comments not related to psychiatry are likely me trolling.
There are many reasons psychiatry is not science. 1) Science is a process of rigorously identifying causes to natural phenomena. 2) The fruit of this process is a model that both reflects current reality and can predict future observations.
1) Psychiatry's Lack of Science
Psychiatry is not rigorous and everything in psychiatry demonstrates this. As an example, in 7 years, the number of mental illnesses listed in the DSM jumped by 100. This alone is sufficient to demonstrate psychiatry's lack of rigor. Actual science takes many years of formulating hypotheses and testing them rigorously. The test needs to withstand rigorous scrutiny from peers (who want you to be wrong and will rip your arguments to shreds with the slightest flaw) before being published. Finally, the tests need to be repeated by other scientists who get the exact same results.
Psychiatrists voting 100 illnesses in a book in only 7 years is a joke to any respectable scientific field.
As you can guess, there are many ideas mentioned already that deserve elaboration. For example, at the heart of this 100 illnesses dilemma is another issue. Nobody called fraud on psychiatrists because claiming, for example, that caffeine disorder is a mental illness is not a falsifiable hypothesis - something also required for science.
2) The Fruit of Pseudoscience
Even though the latter subject is far from fully addressed, let's get on to the second point - the fruit of science is realistic models with predictive power. If we apply this analysis to psychiatry, we see exactly what we expect from psychiatry's pseudoscientific, flimsy standards - models that are ridiculous and fail to predict. For example, according to the DSM, math disorder, spelling disorder, caffeine disorder, and many other ridiculous titles are all mental illnesses - which indicates their models fail to reflect reality (i.e. it's descended past being pseudoscience and is just plain bullshit).
In addition, things like the Rosenhan experiment demonstrate that psychiatrists fail to predict as they were unable to distinguish real patients from the fake ones.
Again this subject is enormous but I invite you to continue researching. Be on the lookout for evidence, not the number of people saying psychiatry is science.
