@SwankyCub I agree with you. I also think her age should be taken into account - she's almost 70 at this point, which is an age where most sopranos, throat surgery or not, don't feel too comfortable singing in the high register anymore.

@unskathd The answers you have received here are almost correct. According to the booklets of both "The Age of Bel Canto" and "Acis and Galatea", which both contains recordings of this aria with Sutherland, the correct text is:

@theinkbrain I totally agree. It's pointless to compare such different singers, and besides, it's much more interesting to read praise or criticism of a singer based on what he or she actually does, NOT on what someone else does.

@BalletBabyBoy So do I! I think it's a shame that such a beautiful opera is so underrated. It was Puccini's favourite of the three "Trittico"-operas.
