Unfortunately, animal testing is a very essential part of drug and virus testing. Most new drugs that pass stage 1 animal testing don't pass stage 2 human testing. This does not mean the whole process is a waste of time and effort. ALL modern drugs now used have passed this rigorous testing process. So to say a drug or vaccine for aids has not been achieved is of no consequence.
