This song is being sung in Ukrainian, albeit with a Russian accent, not surpirising since the recording is by the Red Army Chorus, and is available on Amazon.com. This is a typical Ukrainian song that has boy/girl flirtation as its theme. Nothing to do with any tribute to Cossacks or Imperial Rus...
