Intellecutal Elevation

An-Nahdah is the intellectual elevation. For Nahdah to be correct, the intellectual elevation must be based on spiritual foundation.

While the Muslim Ummah has the spiritual foundation i.e. belief in Allah (SWT) and the belief in setting all actions in accordance to His rules, it has lost the intellectual elevation. In other words, the Muslim Ummah no longer understands its Deen.

Decline in Thought

This decline in thought amongst the Muslims resulted from negligence of studying the various aspects of Islamic knowledge and the Arabic language, among other reasons. It is no surprise then to see Muslims viewing the noble Qur'an as a mere book for blessings. Nor is it a surprise to find Muslims raising questions and doubts about the authenticity of the Sunnah as a source of beliefs and rules (Ahkam). It is also common for Muslims to view the seerah of the Messenger (Saaws) as nothing but nice and touching stories instead of a detailed guide for their actions in the current time. This is a manifestation that the Deen has lost its vitality and presence in the minds and hearts of Muslims, not to mention the life affairs.

Distortion of Islam

To further complicate this matter, Islam has been the subject of a severe attack by the West which resulted in a distorted image of Islam. Consequently, even those who want to be good Muslims end up not practicing it correctly. Therefore, we must revive the intellectual thought of Islam by reviving the study of its sciences and language.

What Must Be Done

While we aim at this revival, by no stretch of the imagination do we claim that we can reach the Ummah at large. This is well beyond the reach of an academic institution. What is hoped for, at best, is to be able to reach Muslims who want to learn their Deen in depth and with clarity. Insha' Allah, these Muslims wil not only practice the Deen but will continue its propagation. To this end, An-Nahdah institute conducts courses in a traditional classroom setting as well as utilizing the latest virtual technology.

As this is a best effort endeavor, it will always be lacking. To improve on our efforts, any assistance, advice, and criticism is quite welcome.
