The purpose of this channel is to collect information that I feel best represents the views held by the great men, who supported and coached by their wives, and assisted by the Native Americans, founded this country. That way we might learn from history in order to understand the present. The mock debate below forms a good basis on which to begin an in depth study.

I believe that America was founded on truths that are self-evident to all the people. They were violated by the kng of Great Britian as indicated by the Declaration of Independence.
According to what I have presently read, I do not believe that America was founded on Christian theology, or any other religious theology, but rather founded on truths self-evident to a child.
A Christian might bring up the Mayflower compact which indicates that the pilgrims formed the first colonies for the advancement of the Christian faith."
The pilgrims on the Mayflower were no doubt professing Christians (Puritans), but their descendants, even though they come from a Christian heritage, were not all professing Christians. Therefore, not all the founding fathers of the Untied States of America shared the Christian faith. They all however shared a fear of God.
Ahh, but the bible was considered an authoratative souce in both the court and school system.
Authortative in regard to its moral standards; not the theological concepts derived from it. Morality is self-evident, while doctrines of belief are not.
"Nearly all of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were Christians."
Be careful there! Once agian, they came from Christans backgrounds; however, not all were Christians. And not all who called themselves Christians would meet the standard of faith demanded by mainsteam Christianity.
"Many Great American claimed Christianity as the basis of American government."
Yes, they gave their oppinion which was not the general consent.. Article VI section three of the Constitution states "... no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
"Oh, but It says this because our founding forefathers did not want to favor any denomination of Christianity over the other."
No, it says this because they did not want to favor any religion in general. For the 'Treaty of Tripoli' article eleven clearly states that the United States of America was not founded on the Christian religion. This treaty was signed by Preseident John Adams who, I am happy to say, was a true Christian man. For he rightly knew who you deceivers of redemption really were when he said, "Have you considered that system of holy lies and pious frauds that has raged and triumphed for 1500 years."
"Would not the enforcement of biblical values infringe upon our constitutional rights," an Atheist might say. "For no where in the constitution is the bible ever mentioned; therefore, biblical values not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution can be discarded by a majority vote..
So you would be willing to discard the values held by Ameficans though out this countries rich history? For you would rather see words on a piece of perchment than the intentions behind those words.
Did not Thomas Jefferson state that one generation had no right to bind its laws and judgments to another?
Freedom of application, not interpretation, for Thomas Jefferson lived by the values of the bible. He even wrote his own Deistic version of the bible! He believed that the application of those sacred and undeniable truths often change in response to social and cultural conditions. yet those self-evident truths remain the same.
"Obviously they disagreed with some biblical principles," the Atheist replies. "Slavery is a biblical concept you know. And yet some of the founding fathers thought that it to be evil."
Some of the founding fathers were against the racist intent behind slavery, not necessarily slavery itself, for some of them even owned a few slaves. They wanted to end slavery in ordert to end racism.
"You know doubt then must believe then that woman have no right to vote." For your own bible discriminates against woman declaring them to be subservient in the church.".
Since the bible had women pastors, The founding fathers were wrong about this. However, Abigail Adams (Wife of John Adams) felt differently. So God created man and women to be equal, but to have different characteristics to check and balance the opposite sex. Women finally prevailed over voting rights. Thanks to the suffragette movement.
