I'd still suggest reading 'Triumph of the Moon' by Hutton and two by Philip Heselton called 'Wiccan Roots' and 'Gerald Gardner and the Cauldron of Inspiration' if you really want to know more about the history of Wicca.

Please check out Amber K also for newbies. True Magick is a very good one for beginners and set out in something of a lesson plan with book lists to back up each topic.

I don't have the Spell Bible but I do have the other two and enjoy them very much.

I'm not so sure its the titles that are condescending considering its an attitude more than anything. I have to agree with you for the most part though. Too many who haven't gone through the training are considering themselves priest or priestess these days. I already know a number of them do it...

@ohmyynicole I would suggest that you take your time in studying Wicca before deciding to become Wicca. Wicca is a fertility religion at its core so the feminine is too important to leave out.

I find this funny that just because people have decided not to believe a certain way that they must not have a full understanding of it. My way or you haven't studied and thought about it long enough and hard enough.

@TiNafullmoon Unless you are looking to join a specific tradition in Wicca then you really don't need a coven or another witch. Simply look up dedication ritual and pull it together for yourself. If you work alone you don't really need a priest or high priest title either.

Unfortunately he is giving misinformation about both religions. Sorry old boy but 100 hours doesn't even scratch the surface of Wicca. Considering the skewed view most Christians have about their own religion I find it personally hysterical they think they can read a couple books and claim expert...

I would say if you are still hooked on Margaret Murray's views of goddess worship (debunked in the 70s) then you might find Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton irritating as it challenges Ms Murray's claims and offers up some places to look for evidence otherwise. This is my own understanding of it too, which is why I call myself an eclectic pagan rather than Wiccan.
