About Me:
Amanda Rishworth MP was elected to the Federal Parliament for the South Australian seat of Kingston in 2007.
Amanda was educated at state schools in Adelaide and studied psychology at Flinders University where she was President of the Student Union. Amanda graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours from Flinders University and a Masters Degree in Psychology from Adelaide University.
During her studies, Amanda worked as a sales assistant and developed a strong interest in workplace fairness. While at university, Amanda also worked in the trade union movement both as a union representative and as an occupational health and safety trainer. After graduating, Amanda practiced as a Psychologist working with General Practitioners in the delivery of mental health care to the community before being elected to the Federal Parliament.
Since being elected in 2007, Amanda has had the privilege of serving on a number of parliamentary committees. Amanda is currently Chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Education and Employment, and she also serves on the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters and the Joint Select Committee on Cyber Safety. In addition, Amanda is secretary of the Status of Women Caucus Committee and a member of the Parliamentary Friends of Mental Illness, the Parliamentary Friends of Eye Health and the Australia Pacific Parliamentary Group.
Amanda has always been actively involved in the Southern Adelaide community she represents. She is a current member of a number of local groups including the Hallett Cove Lions Club, Southern Theatre and Arts Supporters (STARS), Friends of the Lower Field River, Friends of the Willunga Basin and the South Adelaide Football Club to name just a few. Amanda has volunteered her services as a swimming instructor and surf life saver for many years and she is a member of the Christies Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
As both a local living in the Southern Suburbs and an active federal representative for the region, Amanda has made standing up for the South her top priority. Since coming to office she has been out in the community listening to residents and fighting hard at home and in Canberra on important community issues such as improving access to General Practitioners and other health services for local families, securing the modern broadband facilities Southern Adelaide deserves and improving local roads and infrastructure.
When time allows, Amanda also very much enjoys catching up with her friends and family, taking a yoga class or unwinding with a good book. Amanda is also a dedicated South Adelaide Football Club fan and so you can often find her cheering in the crowd of a Panthers game on weekends during football season.
