About dementia
These videos explore the different types of dementia, brain function and how it relates to dementia as well as looking at some easy ways you could help a family with dementia. Dementia is a term used to describe various different brain disorders that have in common a loss of brain function that is usually progressive and eventually severe. There are many types of dementia. The most common are Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.
Symptoms and diagnosis
These films feature people with dementia, their families and carers, plus writer Terry Pratchett discussing their feelings on diagnosis, the symptoms of dementia and their experiences of the condition.
Alzheimer's Society has information for anyone worried about potential symptoms of dementia, including if you are worried about your own memory or someone else's. You can also find out about risk factors associated with different types of dementia and what to do if you have been diagnosed with dementia.
Living with dementia
In these videos people with dementia, their families and carers discuss how they live with dementia, from early to late stages.
Caring for a person with dementia
When a person with dementia finds that their mental abilities are declining, they often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance and support. The people closest to them - including their carers, friends and family - need to do everything they can to help the person to retain their sense of identity and feelings of self-worth. In these films, carers tell their stories of dementia. Many of these films also feature Alzheimer's Society Services. Our local services include day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring. From Alzheimer's Café's and innovative 'Singing for the Brain' sessions to memory-book projects and group outings, our services provide both practical support and an essential point of human contact.

South Asian communities - An introduction to dementia
This playlist contains 3 films providing an introduction to dementia, each available to watch in Bengali, English, Gujurati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
Film one is an introduction to dementia from Atiq Hassan, Dementia Adviser, Bradford.
In the second film Prabhakant and Kanta Patel talk about their mother Chanchalben Patel. Chanchalben Patel was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1997. Prabhakant, her son and his wife became her sole carers.
The third film Stan and Denise Lintern looks at their experience of living with dementia. Family man Stan Lintern was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1996 after a long career with the NHS.
Dementia brain tour
The dementia brain tour is a free educational video resource that includes films on the brain and how brain cells function, Alzheimer's disease, Posterior Cortical Atrophy, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, fronto-temporal dementia and other rarer causes of dementia. There are nine films in total.
