About Altoona Fire Department
The Altoona Fire Department is made up of approx. 66 firefighters. There are 4 main fire stations throughout the city. At those 4 stations the city keeps 1 Ladder Truck (351), 3 Rescue/Engines (311, 312, 313), 1 Engine (314), and 1 Heavy Rescue (332). There is always an assistant chief on duty:
(301, 302, 303, 304, 306, 307, 308, 309, 386).
In addition to the main apparatus the department also has some spare pieces of equiptment: 2 Engines (315 & 316), 1 Ladder Truck (352), 1 Light Rescue/HAZ-MAT (331), and 1 pick-up truck.
The city also provides the HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE TEAM for Blair County. The city has 1 HAZ-MAT Truck (362), 1 Bus(361), and 1 Light Rescue/HAZ-MAT (331).
The Altoona Fire Department is part of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). Local 299.
