Am Tag von Felix' Geburt im Jahr 1973 stirbt sein Vater an einem Herzinfarkt. Seitdem fürchtet sich Felix vor einem ähnlich plötzlichen Tod und vermeidet panisch jede kleinste Verletzung - bis Magdalena in sein Leben tritt.
Auf den ersten Blick ist Felix Berthold Bux ein ganz normaler junger Mann. In Wirklichkeit jedoch ist er ein von der Angst vor Krankheit, Unfall und Tod verfolgter Hypochonder - ein Alptraum für die Ärzte. Als er wieder einmal in einer Klinik auf die Ergebnisse eines Krebstestes wartet, begegnet er einer jungen Frau namens Magdalena - eine Patientin, die es sich anscheinend in den Kopf gesetzt hat, ihn kennenzulernen. Alle Versuche, Magdalena abzuschütteln, sind vergebens. Felix genießt ihre Nähe. Anstatt den geplanten Selbstmord zu organisieren, will er sie am nächsten Tag sogar im Krankenhaus besuchen. Dort wartet tatsächlich die Begegnung mit dem Tod auf ihn - aber ganz anders, als er es je gedacht hat.
In dem Kurzfilm "Hypochonder" von Maggie Peren präsentiert Matthias Schweighöfer in der Hauptrolle eine perfekte Charakterstudie: linkisch und verkrampft, dabei aber zäh auf seine eingebildeten Krankheiten bestehend.
