Alter Self were formed in Athens back in the summer of 2007 by guitarist Andrew Geo (ex-Raw In Sect) who also took over the vocals, and drummer Nick Kottis. About a month later they joined forces with John Marinatos (also in Pulverised) on bass. The line-up was fully completed some time later with the addition of George Ntantalias on guitars. The musical style could be described as a mixture of thrash and death metal combined with progressive elements. After some months of rehearsing and working on original material they entered the studio to record their first demo/EP and also took part in several local live shows in Athens. The bands most important moment until now is their appearance as the support band of Septicflesh in Serres, at September 2008. A few days before the recordings were over, George Ntantalias left the band for personal reasons. As a result, all the guitars on the demo were recorded by Andrew. George was replaced by Arthur Ovakimian (Concretefist, ex-Crossblade) who joined the band as a session member. The band has already performed a live show with this line-up. Meanwhile, the demo was completed and is officially available since February 2009 entitled Ashes Over Eden. After a temporary pause of their activities due to military obligations, the future plans include the recording of a full-length album and the bands participation in as many live shows is possible.
