About All Fract Up: My Fractal Video Art

The fractal videos you will see here are all my own creation. I upload them to show some of the things I have done. Their quality ranges from QVGA (320 x 240) to 1440x1080. All of my fractal video art start as PC High Definition usually at 1024 x 768 all the way up to 2048 x 1536 video resolution.

Do you want to see the end of a Mandelbrot? This animation is one of my faves. I set it to the techno version of the Star Wars Anthem. That's right I found there really is an end to the Mandelbrot set, and I found it completely by accident while I was goofing around with a Windows-based fractal editor whose name I have long forgotten.

Look for "06 Mandelbrot's End Star Wars Anthem QVGA"

There seems to be some debate over the claim of my findings. Please look in your dictionary for the definition of the word "end" or look it up online at www.dictionary.com

Out of forty-four given examples on Dictionary.com the common theme falls in line with my use of the word "end". Hint: there are two end points. Look for the second one around 2:15 into the video.

Before we get started I wanted to say that I have a lot of different interests which may not be what you want to see or know about. So when I favorite some of them here on You Tube that's just me pointing to the ones that are funny, serious, creative, inventive, subversive perhaps? Whatever it is that's okay. If you don't like them please keep it to yourself. Or if you are a minor then ask you legal guardian / parent(s) to look at what I have here just so they know what you might run into. The other thing I want to say is some people who leave comments may use swears or other language which might be offensive. Just a little heads up for those who are kids or act like them.

Here's a cool tip: Buy C3D / ChromaDepth type 3D glasses and wear them when you are watching my fractal videos. These are also cool for looking at my fractal art off my web site. You can pick up an inexpensive pair through www.crayolastore.com from their "color explosion 3D" kits.

You can now buy my First Edition Fractal Video Art titled "Fractal Explorations - Volume 1" from Film Baby. These are the same animations you've seen on MySpace and You Tube, but with DVD video quality and in their original numerical order. These are sold as both physical DVDs and as digital downloads. My newest fractal art exhibit and on-stage performance of PC HD video art has ended. It was held on the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College from August 10th to September 16th, 2009. For my reception (held August 19th) I had Atlanta based musician and composer Michael Thomas Roe playing live mixes of his "Space" music. In the lobby I had a fractal DVD featuring my visuals and Michael's newest "Space" music playing on a continuous loop from the newly installed HD kiosk. From this show comes the possibility of showing on a different GPC campus the same (or similar) art that was shown at this exhibit . The school's Interior Designer also inquired about making purchases from the show to display in one of their new libraries.

I'm a fractal artist & animator. I got started making my fractals back in 1994. I had just purchased a top of the line 486 DX4/100 MHz computer. It was a full tower server with 10 drive bays (four 5.25 inch full height HDD internal bays), 12 expansion slots, it had four wheels (front two locking), and stood at desk height. I used that machine to produce 13,000 fractals between 1994 and 2000/2001. Then I upgraded to a P200 w/MMX by switching out the components for modern ones. I kept the original case.

I also purchased a faster AMD K6-2/500 MHz tower as my main fractal work station. At the time it was also top of the line. With the two of these I was set to make about 10,000 fractals per year until 2006. I gained access to a 1.2 GHz AMD Duron computer that allowed me to make 35,000 fractals in one year (2006). I was pretty happy with something like 80,000 fractals (I had to manually weed out a few thousand duplicates that slipped past my automatic filters). Later in 2008 I had to upgrade again in order to make an animation deadline for the Roswell CABY awards ceremony. That new computer is now my main animation workstation and is used for generating billboard sized fractals. With it I was able to clear through 30,000 frames of animation in a month or two.

I had many gallery showings over the past decade. I am moving in the direction of "edutaining" children across Georgia through the public and private schools, working with DJs, VJs, and Musicians by creating video products they can operate from their computers and/or DVD players, plus I'm looking to the future where I will have my own gallery and "edutainment" theater all rolled into one.

Fractals can be described as thrilling, chilling, way cool, trippy, inspiring, relaxing, etc. Fractals can produce different impressions, experiences, or interpretations from one person to the next. The attitude, personality, mood, sobriety (or lack of it), age, gender, race or cultural origins are factors that can dictate how each person sees and interprets fractals. Other factors include the music that is playing (if any), the people around you, the vibe given off and created in different situations, etc. So, fractals are most like clouds. Each person may see something unique when looking at the same clouds. What will you see?
