I have loved music ever since I can remember. There are pictures of me playing the piano when I was about 6 months old (though to be honest, I don't know how well I was playing)! My first recording was for a Christmas present for my Grandparents when I was 3 ½, and though maybe not Grammy worthy at the time, we all have to start somewhere right?! Starting so young and growing up with a VERY musical family, I have grown to love and appreciate all types of music. I don't know if there has ever been a day I have not been influenced or surrounded by it [music] and thus it's safe, and true, to say it's a part of who I am.

In every interview I've had in the past 2 years I have been questioned about my experience with the T.V. show "American Idol", and though it was a great experience, I view it more as a launching pad to where I am now and where I want to go. I love being able to write my own music and better yet, sing it! Writing is a type of therapy for me in a way. Not in the sense that I express all my triumphs and sorrows on the page, but writing and music in general helps me realize that my life is pretty good. It makes me take a step back and realize the world is bigger than just me. Singing is a way to express that and to show I truly am grateful for the life I have, the people I have come to know, and the experiences I have been able to have.

I cannot mention the good times without acknowledging the bad. We all experience hard times, but they are different for all. Mine have come in several ways, one of which was losing the use of my left arm for about a year of my life. Some may think I am crazy for saying this, but if I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing about that time of my life. I learned that when you have to work at something, it makes it more worthwhile, and it makes it mean more. I learned that just because you face hard times, doesn't mean hard times have to face you! (If that makes sense) You can still have a smile in the middle of your hardest time, it all depends on your attitude, and that is what I learned. Music helped me learn that. Without my love of music and wanting to play and sing more than almost anything else, I would not have pushed myself to learn those lessons and essentially grow to be who I am today.

I do it because I love it. No, I more than love it. It's a part of who I am! I feel the most like myself when I am performing. I have heard time and time again that this industry [the entertainment industry] is one full of ups and downs, but when it is something you love there is no denying it! You take the ups with the downs and learn to be appreciative of both. Music, whether singing, writing, playing, or a mixture of all three will be a part of my life as long as I'm here. I'd be miserable without it. I'm here for the long haul!
