@3F93 You must listen to Sondra Radvanovsky singing both this aria and Mercè, dilette amiche. She has clearly learned a lot from Madame Callas and gives the aria her own special gift. Please listen, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

A Brunhilde that sang a Norma... (in the same season at the Metropolitan no less) This is why the portamenti and trill are as written and not the oft rough rendering heard by virtually every other Soprano to tackle this role. Wonderful Rita.

This is the Joan Sutherland that really makes you marvel at what in incredible instrument it was. Full, rich CLEAR sound with no garbled plum in the back of the throat. I don't know what happened to the voice in the following 10 years, but it lost the crystal sound and she sounded like a grand ...

This almost makes me wonder if she took the wrong road with the bel canto school. I always wondered why she sounded plummy later in life. Does anyone else think she sounds in her absolute element here?

There have been many before her, but this lady has well and truly marked her place as the leading Verdi Soprano TODAY. I have been paying attention to her since 2004, and she has only got better since then. I can't wait to hear what she does with NORMA. Maybe an Abagaile and Lady Mac one day ...

We should all be lucky to stand up at 99, much lest sing to a room full of well dressed people and get THEM to stand up for us. A true gem and strictly once in a 100 years performance. Thank you

This is a good voice, but there is very little subtlety or dynamics used in these lessons which is a little concerning. I hope he has a great career

This is some set of lungs! Great heroic sound. This is a naturally more dramatic voice than Mr Pavarotti.

A lyric sounding Brunhilde! Wonderful SINGING not barking. This doesn't need to be screamed as loudly as possible, merely a voice with the right edge and hers has it. Wonderful portamenti and trill too. I believe Rita Hunter would have listened to this before undertaking to record the English...

What a thrilling performance. The attack at the top and bottom are incredible. Its comforting to hear that she too was human with the very slight crack at 3:52. A wonderful artist!

I think the amazing and noteworthy thing to mention here is that there is a video of Ms Fleming singing this 17 years earlier. You will find that the voice has not deteriorated in the slightest. She is constantly engaged and sings everything but the kitchen sink! Very gifted and unique artist.

Turandot is 20 mins of singing for the lead. This is one of the high points. Her voice is too soft grain for this part. Beautiful in the lyric passages but a let down at the dramatic climax

@primohomme Rita Hunter was the first soprano to sing Norma at the Met in the correct key since Ponselle. When Ponselle heard a recording of Ms Hunter singing the Siegfried Brunhilde she said....and I quote :"If Callas had that voice she wouldn't have got into so much trouble"
