About this user

Affinitia is a disorder that I was born with and later had to discover. It was always there clawing at the back of my brain, picking for something supernatural. There is not a specific moment where this disorder overtook me, I can't recall the exact second that I had a musical epiphany. Some people remember the first time they picked up a guitar or how inspiring it was the moment they heard The House of the Rising Sun for the first time. I am not one of those people.

When I was in second grade I had a crush on a classmate. I locked myself up in my room and wrote a song about her on a green piece of paper. I didn't know how to play an instrument yet at this point so all I had were my vocals. The song didn't go too far, my older sister found it and I was pretty embarrassed, it would be a few years before I attempted to write another song.

At the age of 10 I took piano lessons for about a year. I got to experience performing for the first time in front of a live audience at a piano recital, the song I chose to play was called "Quiet River." I played a few recitals and learned quite a lot about playing and reading music but I eventually stopped going to my lessons. Quitting was a mistake I realized I had made 6 years down the line.

I remember having a pretty terrible taste in music around the age of 14. The music I listened to at that stage of my life sounded as confusing as I felt. Most of the music was considered "New Rock" back in those days but nowadays they call it "Rock" and I just call it shit. I do have memories of banging on glasses with spoons and making other noises on my pants and such using a standard tape recorder whilst blurting mostly swear words into the recorder with a friend named Michael. We didn't necessarily refer to our little project as "music" but that was sadly what we were trying to make.

When I turned 16 music seemed to start making more of an impact on my life. I started listening to heavy amounts of Radiohead and got rid of all the "New Rock" CD's that littered my collection before. I was a skateboarder at that time and quite a daring one at that. On a loading dock I had an accident where I fractured my ankle and already had a broken arm (unrelated snowboarding injury). This helped me focus more on Piano and less on skating since I was in too much pain to be active. I learned how to play the Radiohead songs "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" and "Like Spinning Plates" on piano during this injury. My older sister, Teresa, taught me basically any Radiohead song I wanted to know after that.

I started playing piano at my youth group with the worship band. My band mates thought that I was pretty good but in all reality I was just playing little parts from Radiohead songs in whatever key the band was playing. I had a friend named Deke who was also in the church band, he played guitar. He and I eventually started hanging out and I would write lyrics and piano parts to songs he came up with on guitar. We collaborated on a few songs but eventually I stopped jamming with Deke and the church band.

A year later I found myself attending a new school. I was a Junior and only had 1 year and 1 semester left of high school. During this time I was approached by a few friends about starting a band. I played keys and we were called An Autumn Iris. I played with the band throughout the rest of school and they respectfully let me go around Graduation when we were later known as Aida.

There were things happening behind the scenes of Aida though. I had a friend that swore I looked like someone who played more than just piano. She let me borrow her Guitar and even taught me how to read tabs based purely off of something she saw inside of me. Later urgent family problems would force her to move out of the state, she left me her amp and Boss Mixer which I still use to this day when I record.

At the age of 19 when the fiasco with Aida was all said and done I began to pursue a more personal goal for my music. Every band experience I had up to this point was more about following a leader and less about making music for myself. I turned to the mixer my friend had left for me. I also saw music in a more serious light so I decided to take guitar lessons from a great man who shares my first name, Tim. I was introduced to Tim by my wonderful and loving grandparents. Throughout my life my Grandparents would show more support and love than anyone else I knew. They are the reason for many of my good decisions.

I have been recording my own songs and playing shows for the past 5 years while not making too much progress. I guess I've come at least a little way when I look back at myself as a second grader trying to write a love song. I was just warming up for the days of Constellations and Where do we go. I aim to have many more songs, shows, and overall musical activity in my life now. This is where I am, let's just see how far I can go. ....
