Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense is the sea-based element of the Missile Defense Agency's Ballistic Missile Defense System that contributes to the initial missile defense capability against short and medium range missile threats in midcourse flight. Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense builds upon the Aegis Weapon System, Standard Missile, and Navy Ballistic Missile Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence systems. Aegis is at sea, on patrol, and ready to transition to Ballistic Missile Defense alert status, performing a strategic role in Homeland Defense.

I do see that some of the gas and exhaust was controlled and channeled outward from the launch unit, but does the exhaust do anything to the deck of the ship? It probably blackens it a good bit I'm sure...

I guess they must be part of a giant conspiracy too, eh? Maybe we just want to have ballistic missile defense against countries like: north korea, communist china, and islamofascist iran. Then there are several other nations around the world that use versions of the Standard missile and Aegis system, and they PAY US for them. Foreigners paying Americans for top-of-the-line gear, oh my, perish the thought!
