I'm not a pro dog trainer, but after owning dogs for 35 years I think I know a thing or two. One of the ways I teach leadership to my dog (who I regard as a soldier, not a 3 year old kid with a bib around it's neck) is by doing drills every morning that keep him in check. 75% of dog training is c...

Maybe this dog is a little too mellow for police work. My German Shepherd is a male and he'll make a group of teenagers want to cross the street, night or day. I guess it depends on the dog, guard dog type training came real easy and naturally to my baby boy. If some punk punched me my dog would ...

This is a useful way to teach your dog to stand next to you. I would slap my side and say SIDE! while teaching this one instead of "heel" as I reserve that one for when we're in motion. This technique can lay a starting foundation for a solid "SIDE" command. My dog responded pretty well to it.
