Lyrics: Here we are celebrating the month of Black History Remembering those who fought against racism, injustice and absolute tyranny That plagued this nation even before its revolutionary birth These Americans fought oppressors who told them they had no worth So we commemorate these Americans and we remember them greatly Wait....we only remember them for one month, so we remember them faintly See, this whole concept, this idea, it drives me so crazy So, I'm gonna be straight up with you and be completely blunt I don't give a DAMN about Black History Month
Now, before you take any offense, take a second to listen Cause y'all are blinded to the truth while I'm seeing 20/20 vision And sharing this truth is my mission, cause it's something you are missin And these great Americans we are dissin So I am here wishin that instead of dismissin what I have to say Try to understand that celebrating American History for one month is just not the right way
Now notice I said American and I didn't say Black Black History is American History, that is a fact Black History is American History, that's the way to put it best So, if they're the same thing, how come we treat it like it's less? Do we not care or do we not have any respect For Dr. King, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X? If we do care, then how come we don't treat them like the rest? Like Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson, and Lincoln When Black History Month was created I wonder what those creators were thinkin Cause it's racism at its finest, well actually its worst It was made to make it appear as if we are truly diverse See, they got your minds in a coffin and your thinking in reverse So, I'mma get you thinking forward and pull your brain out the hearse
When Dr. King had a dream, it was heard all around Now for only one day and one month do we bother to make a sound About the words of his speech and the message he conveyed Since we're so "diverse and equal", we've just let his message fade. And there is no parade to greatly celebrate all his achievements I guess the Giants Superbowl win just had more importance They throw a ball and win a silly little game These Americans fought to break free from their chains Yet there is no outburst of appreciation for changing the ways that had been Instead we get thousands of facebook statuses about the "Amazing" Jeremy Lin If we do appreciate them how come we don't show it? Instead of listening to their messages, we're listening to I'm Sexy and I Know It?
WHAT!?!
My whole point is that Black History Month is unlawful discrimination Cause it's their message that matters, not their pigmentation Their message was about equality and liberty, principles this country stands upon And they had to fight for these rights, they weren't just handed 'em Although they fought for their people's rights, it was about freedom for all To knock down White Supremacist ideology and make sure it would fall Now did we follow through or have we dropped the ball?
Let me bring it full circle and make my point clear Start remembering their messages, not for one month, but for the entire year Cause although it may appear as if we are diverse and equal There is a great division between all of the people So, next time Black History Month comes around, tell people it's racism And those great Americans we are honoring, it's a complete disgrace to them
