You forgot one important detail when you begin. First wet the back of the reed to stick it as it were to the mouthpiece table. It helps keeping the reed in its place.

In order to use it for the bass clarinet just tie two clarinet strings together and there you are!

Guys ,You're not going to believe me! but ... the string ligature has never been supassed. Most German system clarinet players use it. You can tie it tight or not so tight. It improves the lower tones and makes them speak easier. You can also use it on the French clarinets and even on saxophone...

The British (regimenta)l bands are mostly small but they play well. They have their own school of military music at Kneller Hall.

The pictures do not match this recording at all. This is the BG European tour in 1972 with Zoot Zims, the Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander and Bucky Pizarelli (guitar). I think it was recorded in Copenhagen.
