Romania's government called an emergency meeting late Sunday to discuss violent protests that show no sign of abating after demonstrators angry about austerity measures hurled stones and firebombs at police. At least 13 people were injured.
More than 1,000 protesters clashed with police, who used tear gas and flares to repel demonstrators who blocked a main road in Bucharest. One man was briefly set ablaze during the chaos. Interior Minister Traian Igas called an emergency meeting to deal with the crisis.

People are getting out of their homes in Romania to go and protest on the streets. This is the second day of protests and they are live in Bucharest, Constanta, Iasi, Drobeta Turnu-Severin, Cluj, Timisoara, Craiova, Ploiesti and other cities. The protest began when President Traian Basescu went live and presented the new health law. How is it possible that in the new law, we all need to pay to the state but for nothing, because all health services will be paid. So why are we paying? and for what? How is it possible that President Basescu told us that only the rich people will benefit from the healt services when 90% from the people living in romania are poor? The president wanted to disolve the SMURD(emergency healt service) and so people are on the streets. Yesterday they were protesting about the health law. After the protests, Traian Basescu went live and canceled the law but today the protests are in all the country. People aren't protesting now for some law.. they are protesting for their freedom! The president's party have the majority on the Parlament of Romania so for 3 years they promoted what laws they wanted, they changed the constitution without asking the people living in this country. How is this possible? This is not democracy! this is dictatorship!! People want the President Traian Basescu to quit, or else we will make him quit. Starting today the manifestants are starting to be violents, they occupie streets, but in a few days a new Revolution will be here. "Jos Basescu" ( "Down with Basescu") or "Demisia" ("Resignation") or "Iesi afara, javra ordinara"("Come outside, ordinary dog") are shouting from the groups of protestation. In Bucharest there are 2 big groups of people at The University (km 0 of Bucharest) and at the Cotroceni Palace. you can watch live images over the internet from the so called "The Beginning of the New Revolution" on different canals like "Antena 3", "Realitatea TV", "Pro tv" or "Antena 1". They are transmitting live broadcast from the protests. Breaking News - Some constables were injured on some fights on the street. The protestants are starting to be violent. They trowed stones at the constables. Update 21:55 - almost 1 km of street occupied by the protesters and by the police. There are like 400 constables and also around 1500 people on the street fighting with the police force. The road from The University is given to use again after the police forced the protestants to go back on the sidewalk. There are throwed baseball bats, bricks, smokes and petards on the street and in the police. Update 22:02 - Another altercation between the police and protestants, a man is injured. All police forces are just hitting with their stick people in front of them and also they started to use lachrymatory gases. All the protestants are decided to stay in the University area even if they are beaten to get out of there! As i write, 2 more man were injured, one is on the ground, unconscious, with plenty head traumas. The protestants are more angrier. Their number grows. Update 22:16 - Letter from the romanian people! We ask for President Traian Basescu to resign, and the Emil Boc parliament to resign and to have anticipated elections, where we want to vote non-government people to make a new parliament and a new president. We ask all romanians to sign this letter! Besides this, more petards were trowed at the police force.
