Here is my personal definition based off my research and experience living this art form.

1. What is Popping?

Class Description-

Popping is a theatrical style of street dance and art form that was inspired by robotic movement, and developed in California in the early 70s. The focus of Popping is a balance of body and muscle control, dynamic and free rage of movement, and expressing both the rhythm and emotional contents of the music (the beat, melodies, vocals, musical instruments, ect). Popping is fun, artistic, and practical due to the gradual and effective learning process involved, and can also be combined with elements of Hip-Hop party dancing. All are welcome regardless of dance experience.

2. What is Foundation?

To learn and develop an understanding of the basic techniques, form, movements, and mechanics that are involved and utilized within the dance, and then applying your own artistic individuality.

Teaching, performing, and sharing my love of the dance and art form throughout the Boston area. I'm truly appreciative of all who have contributed and still continue to contribute to our beautiful and soulfully rich culture, that is alive with talent, music, art, dance, and the people who embrace and live it. Learning and growing both as a dancer and person, the more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know. I'm neither worse nor better, for everything and everyone is connected and equal. Balance and change is constant both beyond and within human control, and for this reason we are truly equal, despite whether we we choose to embrace or deny equality. Perspective is subjective. Theres room for everybody to shine. May the funk be with you.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:

Jose Eric Cruz (a.k.a "3D" and "ANIMATRONIKSNAKE") has been living and dancing within the Hip-Hop community his whole life, and is currently teaching Popping and Hip-Hop cultural dance styles full time throughout the Boston area. As a professional Dance Instructor, Choreographer, and Performer, Cruz has also utilized his artistic dance talent working with children, teens, and adults of all ages and backgrounds in dance studios, after school programs, sports clubs, corporate events, Colleges and Universities.

Lesley University, Boston University, Boston College, Weston High School, Belmont Day School, Boston International School, Pierce School, Extreme Dance Sport, Brookline Academy of Dance, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Impulse Dance Studio, Boston Center For Adult Ed, Brookline Center For Adult Ed, Brookline Community Center For The Arts, sports clubs such as Reebok Headquarters, Benefitness, Boston Sports Club, FIT CORP, Beacon Athletic Club, Health Works, and China Town YMCA, and has performance experience for Neil Young, Reebok, Puma, Ecco, Fleet Center, Museum of Fine Arts, Miami Music Conference, F.I.T. for Elan Awards, and many more.
