About this user
New Orleans has been called the cultural mecca of the world, the birthplace of jazz and the sister city of the blues. Jazz and New Orleans Culture is recognized as the unifying force that builds bridges, promotes cultural understanding, peace and trade among diversified people from around the world. New Orleans, a unique global village that is at once an Afro-Caribbean-Asian and Native American rooted and grounded city with roots and branches from the Congo and Nile to the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers. New Orleans...rises up from the cradle and inside the crescent as a cultural mecca of people - displaced, exiled, under-served, unserved - who, like the phoenix, have essentially raised themselves up from the ashes, the mud, the mold, the debris, the decay, the hurt, the pain and the ongoing storm called, "Katrina". AMECCAnEXILE is your network, your channel, your host, your home for all persons of the global village who are evacuees, refugees, survivors, as well as those who have contributed a hand up through compassion, kindness, contribution of even 50 cents or 50 hours toward the rebirth, rebuilding, reclamation, reconstruction, renovation, restoration and revival of not only buildings, but also of America and the global village's cultural mecca, its people, and America's soul. Declaration: AMECCA(R) supports and works towards demonstration of the following:
UN's Agenda21, The Earth Charter and the UN's Millennium Development Campaign, UNICEF, ONE, UNESCO and Works that support the protection of Intangible and Tangible Assets of Indigenous, Displaced, Exiled or Under-served Peoples.
We - artists, athletes, diplomats, educators, entrepreneurs, community organizers, researchers, scholars, students, cultural warriors - help to document our history, heritage, intangible assets, indigenous and displaced peoples, our unsung heroes, and the rest of the story. We celebrate, perpetuate and promote the cultural exchange of African, Asian, Caribbean, Cajun and Native American arts, crafts, culture, religions and traditions, as well as the linkages between ancient and modern river cities to the cultural mecca of the global village, New Orleans. Post-Katrina, New Orleans is a city, a mecca, a people displaced, in exile, or returned and in the battle of the century for soul survival. We engage under-served, disadvantaged, and often disconnected or unplugged constituencies in asset mapping, civic engagement, community service, community broadcasting and social entrepreneurship that promotes public and charitable benefits. In these areas, and also in all aspects of communications, we involve, showcase or support children, youth and their families in community-led, focused or driven debate, forums, works to develop diplomats and promote diplomacy and creative conflict resolution, research and debate to help shape legislation and public policy, tools to help the visually-impaired; immersion or study of French, Italian, African and endangered languages; 21st century opportunities for urban and rural cyber-learning, sharing and trade; emergency broadcasting and digital preventative archiving for the recovery and restoration of works by endangered, displaced or indigenous peoples.

With a member in memoriam, Rodger Poche', Juju proposed the original 24-hour drum circle of New Orleans in Congo Square to promote peace, healing and an end to a cycle or season of madness and violence.
