History
The AGVSPORT brand was born in the early days of AGV helmets entry into the North American market.
Having its origin in the safety helmets gave AGV Sport a unique outlook in the apparel industry. Founded in 1985, AGV Sport sought to introduce more technical features into motorcycle apparel instead of relying on style alone as was the common practice. AGV Sport products have consistently won best in class awards from numerous motorcycle publications around the world. A high tech "helmet" mentality drives the development of all of AGV Sport's products. AGV Sport provides a motorcyclist with a line of both affordable entry level products as well as world class high end products hand crafted in Italy.
The list of riders who have worn AGV Sport products at some point during their career reads like a Who's Who of Road racing - Randy Mamola, Loris Capirossi, Troy Bayliss, Kurtis Roberts, Steve Crevier, Ben Bostrom, Miguel Duhamel, Eric Bostrom, Thomas Stevens, Pascal Picotte, Roland Sands, Mike Hale, Randy Renfrow, Aaron Yates, and of course multi-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin.
The identical AGV Sport products worn by our professional riders can be purchased by the general public.
AGV Helmets and AGV Sport
AGV Helmets and AGV Sport are two completely autonomous companies, one Italian and one American, bound by a common history and the great heritage of the world and sport of motorcycle racing.
In 1978 AGV USA, a division of Intersport, Inc. in Maryland became the official importer of AGV Helmets for the United States. In 1985 AGV SpA (AGV Helmets, Italy) assumed ownership of this distribution and Intersport, Inc. was licensed the right to make apparel and other products excluding helmets worldwide bearing the AGV name and trademark. By 1990 the name AGV Sport or AGVSPORT was being used on all apparel items including leather gloves, suits, jackets, boots, and textile garments and AGV Sports Group, Inc. was formed. For a brief period in the early 1990's AGV SpA owned approximately half of AGV Sports Group, Inc. During the 1990's AGV SpA was sold several times and went through a number of mergers and acquisitions.
In 2001 AGV SpA recognized formally that AGVSPORT was in fact an independent brand name belonging to an independent American company. Today AGV Helmets is owned by the famed Italian apparel company Dainese.
