Werner Bochmann composed this tango for the 1941 movie "Das andere Ich" (To other me) directed by Wolfgang Liebeneiner and starring his future wife Hilde Krahl. This composition was unknown to me until I found this record and I did not know that Bochmann recorded individually with his own orchestra.
Werner Bochmann (1900-93) composed many popular songs from the late 1930s onwards and discovered the singing and whisteling talents of actress Ilse Werner after he heard her whistling in her dressing room. For her he composed the beautiful and melancholic "Die kleine Stadt will schlafen geh'n" (Lit. The little town wants to go to sleep). Other well known compositions by Bochmann are "Heimat, Deine Sterne" featured in the Heinz Rühmann comedy "Quax der Bruchpilot" and "Gute Nacht, Mutter".
The video features pictures of the actress Hilde Krahl.

Jack Payne and his BBC Dance Orchestra Vocal Chorus: Val Rosing
Here's a special record for you to mark 300 uploads on my youtube channel. To my mind this is the best version ever recorded, so much better than Jack Hylton's version (give a listen and compare!). This was also the very first song to be recorded in 1931, which was Jack Payne's busiest year for recording. There were 36 sessions in 1931, whereas in the following year there were only 20. However - this record is not one of the easier ones to find. I hope you'll enjoy!

"@electrola89 Zur Zeit der Aufnahme (1930) war Joost auch noch garnicht bei Kristall... Diese 15 cm Woolcos sind oft mit Musikern besetzt, die eben gerade verfügbar waren, deshalb klingen sie oft recht "billig", da auch das Arrangement ziemlich einfach und ohne Soli oder sonstigen Schnickschnack gehalten war. Für ein Paar Pfennig konnte man eben auch nicht viel erwarten ..."
