This song is so cool! It's the quintesential "skiffle" version of this Christmas classic. If I didn't know any better, I would almost say that this was done by John, Paul, George, and Ringo (well, maybe not Ringo) in their very early days...It's a great cover of a great Holiday number. Thanks...

The sax at 2:40 sends chills up my spine. I was dating my future wife at the time; what a great song from an artist who has endured for decades. Singers and writers like Smokey just don't exist anymore. Rock on, Smokey!

Love Beckley, Peek and Bunnell! I remember this song as one of the first I heard on the car radio after I got my driver's license in '72. And it's still a great song almost 40 years later.

They used to play this on the juke box in my high school cafeteria when I was a sophomore in '71. And Joe Walsh would go on to do so much better with the Eagles later in the decade. It was a great decade in which to grow up!

What a great Glenn Frey piece from 1982, a piece of the Eagles of the '70's. They don't write or sing them like this any more. I remember turning on the radio of my '72 VW Beetle and hearing songs of this caliber on a weekly basis. Those were truly the days...Thank you for this nice post.

So beautiful..thank you for this post. Our cat passed away on 1 September, 2011, and I will always remember this piece as the one where she can rest in peace.

Our kitty of 16 years passed away on 1 Sep 2011, a very hard time for us. Upon hearing this piece, I like to think of its title as "Kätzchen können sicher spielen" ("Kittys can safely play"). May ours rest in peace, and forever play.

Hey, what's about all the negative comments about this song? If you are 35 or under, you just don't know what good music is. You've been listening to all the crap that has been passing for music since 1995 or so. Get a life, and get your old man's, (and lady's) LP's out and play them!

@6prereq Indeed it was! I remember as a college student in the '70's listening to this quality of music on a weekly basis with the twist of the radio knob of my VW Beetle. They are years that I will always treasure, and the music of those years made them all the better.

What a great song from the early '80's, they don't write or sing them like this anymore. We all grow old, we do not all grow wise. This song embraces both of these sentiments. Let us strive for the latter.
