Fecha Mentality A prominent name in Urban / Latin Industry Rapper/ producer Joel Jimenez aka El Mental. Growing up listening to Hip Hop, Salsa [inspired by his father], Hip Hopper, Fecha Mentality heard his calling at a young age. At the age of 12, he got his first pair of Congas "Drums" by the age of 13, which to him was the beginning of something big that was yet to come. Fecha Mentality first performance was in local parties for his friends playing Hip Hop Music and Boleros, Bachata, Salsa. The idea of becoming a Rapper came from his mentor NYC Urban DJ D.J. Reflex who played a big roll in showing El Mental the ropes of deejaying. began to involve Mentality in many of his performances. By the age of 15, his dedication, enthusiasm and passion for music attracted the attention of many promoters who hosted parties at various venues such as Latin Quarters in NYC, and clubs in Miami like KGB, Club Zen, Ready Bar, and Liquids all at the age of 16 and Hip-Hoping along side DJ Reflex. In 1996 Fecha Mentality had came across a new project Tony Touch was working on called Guatauba, which was released in 1996. Reggeaton in NY What!!!! Being the first time DJ Reflex had heard Reggaeton in NYC, his ears were opened to a new type of music. In 1996 DJ Reflex began getting involved in the music known as Reggaeton. The first time he was involved with a Reggaeton project was for the first Guatauba Live CD, in which the Deejays were DJ Benny Blanco and DJ Reflex. First time DJ Reflex was in Puerto Rico he grabbed attention of many entertainment entrepreneurs including Richie Villa of In The House Magazine. I am not just a DJ! I am a performer!! (DJ Reflex) We consider DJ Reflex the pioneer of the Reggaeton in NYC. DJ Reflex was interviewed for the magazine and his interview was for a section called Que tu opinas de el Sexo y la Musica in which DJ Reflex was on the same page with artist in Puerto Rico that were well known at the time like Notty boy, Glory, etc. DJ Reflex was also interviewed by the Rock Steady Crew for a Magazine called Trace magazine which is like the European version of the Source magazine. In the winter of 1999 DJ Reflex was granted another opportunity to work on the Guatauba 2000 CD as collaborator for the album. This grand opportunity allowed him to join forces and become the exclusive DJ for Reggeaton Icons Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam. In the year 2000 DJ Reflex came across an opportunity to have his own radio show and took the opportunity to have the show called Sazon Con Flavor on 91.9fm which was a mix show owned by DJ Reflex and Manolo Guatauba. DJ Reflex is first DJ to ever have a Reggaeton show in NYC! Ratings went through the roof with Sazon con Flavor being on the air, the music of Reggaeton began to expand in NYC and began gaining a larger audience. After observing the ratings and the positive feedback on this particular station format, other radio stations wanted to incorporate Reggaeton into their programming. 1 year of being on the air DJ Reflex released the CD Sazon Con Flavor named right after the radio mix show, which included hot New York dance remixes mixed with artist from Puerto Rico, Daddy Yankee, Chezina, Hector y Tito, Maestro, Mexicano, Magnate y Valentino, Angel y Khriz, and Tony Touch. Selling over 80,000 copies to date and rated ..1 Reggaeton CD that sold the most in NYC. In 2001 DJ Reflex began getting offers from many companies to produce and perform remixes for their material. DJ Reflex the DJ Playero of NYC!! In the process of developing artists and DeeJaying, DJ Reflex had been given the opportunity to work at Latino Mix 105.9fm out of NYC, NY alongside DJ Kazzanova. Developing a program called El Reggaeton de NY. Due to the high levels of interest of other entertainment entrepreneurs in Fecha Mentality performances in and out or the studio, DJ Reflex felt that he had to develop and expand other ventures being offered to him. Presently DJ Reflex has established his record label Sandunga Music. He has incorporated his own unique style and flavor to Reggaeton. DJ Reflex has worked on many compilations such as Guatauba 2000, Guatauba XXX, Da ganja, Rubio y Joel 2, Innocentes Mcs (NYC) La Confrontacion, Rampleteo, Sazon Con Flavor 2, Kings Of New York,Guanabanas Collection, Mas Perreo, Sandungueo Mix 2, Sandunga Music.
