Until early July, 2010, when I received a couple of invites and a comment on my Favorites, I had no idea they were viewable to others, let alone that I could create my on channel... I was simply crusing the tube and gathering faves... so I decided to put one together.
Nothing special here, just a way to share some of the music that has made such a difference in my life... Its certainly not all encompassing, otherwise you'd see a lot more foundational music of my youth, including, but not limited to, the consistently exquisite work, in its entirety, of that dynamic duo of past and present, Donald Fagan and Walter Becker via their sacred cow STEELY DAN... and of course, Zeppelin, Traffic, the Allman Bros, Jethro Tull, the Stones, CSNY, Little Feat, etc. to name a few more... but I suppose that's the subject of future ramblings on a channel to be.
As a teen, during the 70's, music was everything - and the growth of our album collection was often a mere consequence of the insatiable need to hear more. As time rolled on, so too did our music... and soon many of us noticed an evolutionary proces taking place in our musical taste... in our musical journey. We were becoming home grown specialists... critics... experts in our field... honing-in on that group, sound, genre that spoke the loudest to our soul. For me, that would be jazz... progressive/fusion jazz; but by no means would it rule with an iron fist - I love all "good" music... (!!)
For some of us, the significance of music in our life eventually began to fade. But for those of us who couldn't bare to sever that former album flipping hand that feeds us, our music rolled on with us... and the evolutionary process continued... some of us becoming full blown arm-chair musicologists... throwing around 75 cent words like "genre" and "sub-genre" without batting an eye.
Well, here we are, brethren... still rollling along... and regardless of one's view of technology in our lives, one thing is certain: Uncle YouTube provides us an unprecidented platform to continue to build and share our "album" collection in a way that was unimaginable back in the day... and for that I'm eternally grateful... Add to that the ability to throw in the occational personal interest and "perspective" clip and Voila... you have a fully loaded, double barrel, full bore blaster of self-expression!
The bottom line is this: For so many of us, music is the bold, vivid and vibrant color of our world - it certainly is for me. So... with that being said... Welcome to my ever-expanding coloring book, Friends!!
