I think I prefer Gene's version too but this is still very good. This version was hidden away as Track 2 on a Goldmine CD "This Is Northern Soul", totally unlisted and I've never been certain who it was actually by so thanks for posting this and putting me out of my misery!!

What a great tune .. I've never heard this before, seems it was his 45 before "Slow Motion" back in 1971 .. sounds way ahead of its time. Whats the other side of the 45 like?

Timeless classic .. got my copy from Contempo/Blues and Soul in London around 1971 ...

Remember this being played by ROBBIE VINCENT on his BBC radio show and rushed out to buy it when it got a release on Contempo in Britain .. there may have been a Contempo 12" version too .. in which case it could have been the first 12" 45 in Britain.

There is a good reason why the jingles would sound familiar to U.S. radio listeners in the 1960s. The station was owned by the same people who owned stations such as KLIF in Dallas and .. has been mentioned .. PAMS.

Interestingly, the version of this on The Complete Motown Singles CD box set has a different set of lyrics to this. Which makes me think they got the wrong tape, or didn't realise there were two versions. :)
