Listen to Maynard Ferguson's "Conquistador" album...I never thought I'd EVER heard any other trumpet that soared to the heavens like that--but I'm glad to say I'm mistaken...Paul Cacia has a jaw-dropping range...GREAT posting!!

    Ruth Brown - Cabbage Head

"At age 70, Ruth Brown was still in full command of her powers when she cut this beaut of an album ...

    50sMusicMan 50sMusicMan commented:

Great tune! The rueful humor was only something that Ruth Brown could truly deliver. I loved the "been with him for so long and I know he's a snake, but he's my man" fatality that few could ever match--I can only think of Billie Holiday in the same class...great post, thanks a BUNCH for the great...

Mr Pizzareli's C-Jam is what I refer to as an ultimate "tuchus twicher"!! He did one HELL of a great job with the old big-band standard. Thanks for the post--this one's been bookmarked!!

Sitting here in awe of Jack Bruce's fretless Hofner--VERY hard to play that smoothly!! 50sMusicMan 50sMusicMan commented:

I saw Jack on tour with Cream in 1968 at the old Spectrum in Philly...that 6-string bass of his through a combination of Marshall and Kustom amps blew the wind into my face--and I was sitting midway down in the audience!! Amy Winehouse' offical song with pictures and lyrics

    50sMusicMan 50sMusicMan commented:

there's another video on YouTube of Amy singing "Teach Me Tonight" on Jools Holland back in 2005. The difference between 2005 and 2011 was so tragically striking--Ms Winehouse turned from a lady of unbridled talent and stage presence to a walking warning of drug-and-alcohol abuse. 50sMusicMan 50sMusicMan commented:

Cannibal & the Headhunters and Wilson Pickett both did a much better job than April and Nino---but hey, I'll stare at April Stevens all day long! Thanks for the "blast from the past" from my 60s days!

    50sMusicMan 50sMusicMan commented:

April Stevens did well with fellow singer Nino Tempo, but to me, her most expressive work was her solo career. Not the greatest at all, but her ability to wrap her voice around a song made listening to her VERY enjoyable. I spent a lot of teen fantasies in the early 60s with her!

I love listening to the Ames Brothers, although I confess I've never heard their version of "September Song" sung like this--I'm so used to hearing it as a Frank Sinatra-type ballad. This is a real swingin' alternative...thanks for posting!

Charted at #23 on Billboard Hot 100 in March 1958. From the movie, "Marjorie Morningstar".

    50sMusicMan 50sMusicMan commented:

I can remember back in the early 60s when I saw the Ames Brothers on TV for the very first time.
