Legend has it that the lead singer Virgil Johnson was an eighth grade history teacher & the Velvets were his students in Odessa, TX. I believe two the the original Velvets are deceased. Virgil is still going strong.

@hwaj5300 Thanks for pointing that out. It was a punctuation error on my part. The musical arrangement is very reminiscent of Chuck Jackson's recordings. From a personal perspective, this song is my favorite Timi Yuro recording.

@amabilis77 If my failing (62+ years) serves me correctly, the DV were among the first multi racial groups in pop music OR R&B. I believe they were all in the Air Force & their personell drifted in & out of the group as their individual hitches. The Crests were also racially mixed.
