@MB300TE Gotta agree with you that Common Market ( aka LP5) version is actually a fabulous tribute to Tim whom they obviously admired long before any other Brit groups.

@NcicHit2 You may be right about the second tune sounding somewhat like the Yardbirds, but I cannot imagine that band doing the first tune with its clever harmonies.I always loved the Y'birds but the LP5 definately deserve wider appreciation based on the breath of their talent.I think those two ...

@KOOLEO329 How right you are..this LP5 version takes a unique approach and at the same time pays respects to the Oscar Brown original....a few years before anyone else "discovered" the tune. At least the others who had a hit generated some royalties for Mr. Brown even tho they did little or noth...

Just love this tune...Glad to finally hear the original...always liked the Liverpool Five version but not the commercial take by Johnny Rivers and Al Wilson.

@Oddsman57 London and the UK has gone to hell as others here have noted. No wonder Steve Laine took his band to the US in the Sixties he likely saw the writing on the wall.The Liverpool Five's version of this tune is second only to Joe's original.

@Loverockdog69 I have loved this tune for fifty years and next to this original I gotta tell ya that the Liverpool Five version is a knockout.

For what it's worth I think this version is a shade more inventive than both the Monkees and the Raiders .The guitar sound definately has more balls!!!

I just got thru listening to the Liverpool Five's 1966 version of Shot of R&B newly posted on Yu Tube and gotta admit that their version is a little better than the Beats and Gerry. Wonder why Epstein kept them under wraps?
