The song was written by country rock / folkie singer - songwriter Harry Farkas, who was associated with the band. Sir Rastus Bear was his Saint Bernard. He sold em the song, they get writing credit for their arrangement. I believe..

Jim was an inspiration to me. I remember him saying "its never to late to start something new. Just do it, get into it, and youll be able to do it"!
I got back to visit him one day about a year before this and I'm very glad that I did.
