Scar didn't kill Simba there in the gorge because he's not the kind of lion to have blood on his paws. This is why he had hyena minions, to do the killing for him. His attitude and demeanor suggest that he's too egotistical and too sophisticated to do any dirty work himself.

What exactly is the benefit of releasing 5 episodes of a TV show on a DVD? I get MAYBE if mild fans just want a few episodes to own, as a $19.99 5-episode DVD is cheaper than a $29.99 full complete seasion 4-disc box set, but seriously, this kind of system has got to be wasting the manufacturer'...

A lot of commenters are livid that Doug doesn't interpret this movie's style as steampunk. Watch the DVD's bonus features and listen for the word. You'll never hear it. The directors called it the "30/70" law. So don't get your knickers in a twist.

Has anyone noticed that people criticize Disney when characters don't die, and get accuse Disney of being namby-pamby, but when characters like Mufasa and Bambi's mom DO die, Disney's a horrible, childhood-trauma inducing bastard? Double standard much?

I think what warranted it being a cinema release was when Disney took on the cartoon, they added the wrinkle that Skeeter is forever in pursuit of the Lucky Duck Lake monster, and this movie finally revealed it. Everything else was just the cartoon being the cartoon. How thrilling.

@benkenobi2011 Disney is meant for everyone, kids included. They're considered family films, not kid's films. Regardless, he says in numerous reviews that just because they're made for kids doesn't give anyone the right to make a half-assed idea.
