colin i use a mora spoon knife and a mora carving knife shorter thiner blades will allow you to make shapes and turn the bowl in and out easyer but you will have difficulty making the bowl hollow.

i have used tallow ie rendered animal fat before and it is a great lube but does it not attract dirt debris in the gun or the action also would grit ect do damage to moving parts with the tallow? sorry in the UK the closeest i get to a gun is hearing one go off in the woods some times!
