No - 2 hours is fine, if the marinade is acidic, 2 hours is more than enough as the proteins break down after that, but using buttermilk, I'd say if you add in some yoghurt to the buttermilk, it will speed the absorbtion due to the bacteria culture in yoghurt being active, and thus, 2 ...
