This is my Best Friend. "Angel Of Mine". A Passionate visionary for a better world. She is nearing the "century mark" and this is her most recent photo taken in 2009.
Her virtual passions show from her philanthropy. Although she would be embarrassed to read all the attributes i want to share here with all of you. Such a humble soul.
She is like a flow that cleanses the water, taking anyone who encounters her (whether they know who she is or not) back to a pure state of body, mind, spirit and heart.
She has spent her life as a savior of all humanity and of nature. Among many divine gifts she shares she works to preserve nature, beauty and preserve history, as well as provide a spiritual and intellectual refuge for artists, writers, musicians and educators and each and every other kind and walk of life under heaven.
Though she is always quick to give credit to others, those of us who are blessed to know her see a prime mover and shaker in a rebirth of what all of life really is about.
She's a truly unique individual, a life force. She doesn't walk, she floats. She has more vision in her little finger than most of us carry in our entire bodies.
Her character and contributions define the pinnacle of divine thought and ideals. She personifies the insatiable striving for a better world for all humanity and every living thing.
Bringing rebirth to two failed attempts (by others in the early 1800s) at a Utopian community, she has thrived. Through her heart, virtue, generosity, love and vision she has created a place on earth of pure social harmony.
She is a giver and never has it crossed her mind, 'What's in it for me?'"
I could never describe how much i want to share but among many things she is a history buff, supporter and cultural promoter. Restoration of mostly long forgotten structures that now are sites of weddings, gatherings and music recitals.
Construction of a Roofless Church, an inspirational structure by noted architect Philip Johnson. It is her belief that only one roof, the sky, could embrace all worshiping humanity."
An iinstallation of a Cathedral Labyrinth, a concentric winding path whose granite was reproduced identically from a 13th century labyrinth in the Chartres Cathedral in France. A "Sacred Path" as a pilgrimage towards God.
She is also the entrepreneur behind enterprises, which includes Inns, Restaurants, 18th century Opera House, Play House, auditoriums and miles and miles of flower gardens with wandering sacred paths, filled with wildlife, fountains and sculpture. 99.9% are open Free to the Public. 24/7 with lit paths and sparkling lit fountains at night.
But what is nothing less than divine is that she fosters interfaith understanding.
For example, each November she invites international students to celebrate Thanksgiving at her home. "They know that we weren't all decadent spoiled people," she said of cooking Thanksgiving dinner with Muslim students two months after the 911 attacks.
Her grandson likes to recalled an amusing story about her vitality - how a few years ago, during some renovation how his grandmother liked to dance down its stairs.
For those of us who are blessed to be with her there is a saying "she wears us out in shifts." as she runs circles around us all without any effort.
She has been heard saying: "Im trying to reload the boat load of spiritual knowledge that we all arrived aware of and is still in the heart of all of us." And i assure you, all that what she attempts comes into focus - as i have witnessed it all myself. It is breathtaking, mystical, powerful and divine.
Always bubbling with enthusiasm, for decades, she has utilized her wealth, creativity and boundless energy to fund anything and everything, to give back to the world what she believes all life is worthy of. She said once to me, "For whom much is given, much is expected."
A person of not just success but virtue. From saving historical sites, to building homes for orphans, shelters for abused women, highschools and on and on - it never stops. it is forever and unending.
She is wise and oh so humble and lives a simplier life than you or I. What a gift I was given to have this "Angel of Mine" to be apart of my life for as long as I can remember. Even as a small child I was spiritually moved by her and admired her, and to this day every chance i get I am with her. We also have a connection that i cannot explain when we have distance or time between us.
And there in this gentleness there is humor that flows effortlessly. As for her dozens of broad-brimmed hats, she is seldom seen without one.
"I'm incognito without a hat," she declares in an erudite voice reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn. "Your hair can look like nothing at all under a hat and it doesn't bother."
In good / bad / happy / sad may we all remember to count our blessing.... and never doubt that
