This is the version I heard about a year before Roberta Flack's. I like it better because to me it sounds more intimate and less produced. I had the good fortune to hear Lori sing this in person and it was magical.

Of all the buttercream cake decorating videos I've watched on Youtube, this is one is the best production. You may or may not like the techinque, but it was very well done.

So I was 20 when this song came out. My family had moved to LA from Chicago less than 10 years before. When I heard the line "an LA life alone is just too hard to build" I knew exactly what he meant. Truer words were never sung or spoken.

@JohnathanPozzi Terry Kath died in January 1978. As much as I loved Chicago, his absence made a huge void that could never be filled.

Very sad song. Somehow I remember this song being about another singer/songwriter from this time--Steve Goodman who passed away from Leukemia in 1984.

Love this song! Only heard a few times in 1965 Los Angeles but it really left a lasting impression!
