PS - Also, songwriters get royalties for the use of their songs, so they're probably happy to have the money and for new audiences to hear their work. If they're not happy to have their work covered (like Oasis), and they have a good publishing contract, they can prevent bad covers.

All these comments remind me of a sublimely & brilliantly bad subtitle on TV for the film 'High Society'. Frank Sinatra & Bing Crosby were singing the lines, "We sing. So rare. Like old camenbert." The subtitles read, "We sing. So rare. Like old cabin bear." !!!!!! Hahaha!
