About this user

one idea I continue to flesh out
and experience more deeply
is that what we study does pay
dividends immediately
( so to speak )
but that the real reward comes
so many years later as we mature into
being a musician
that we would hardly be able to imagine before...
we can appreciate qualities in other players
( and often those particular players
become our heroes )
but it seems to me that we appreciate
them precisely because they
are manifesting some special something that
we too can render if we apply ourselves
with diligence over the long term...
it takes a long time to grow into
ourselves as we would like to be...
so I encourage students to really enjoy the process
and trust that what they will be able to
hear, play and comprehend further down
the road will be an unimaginable pleasure...
our study and our effort is a gift we give to ourselves...
