Dont you have to use the Switchport voice vlan x for the phone? And with one trunk, the pc loses it ability to get ip add.

I just did this config. And along with it I added DHCP on both sides and EIGRP. Had a great time with that. Troubleshooting is what makes me learn so quickly. Had a lot of problems with EIGRP at first. Love this stuff. Thanks again Jeremy.

One day it just comes to you (hopefully) and then you can do this in your head. The mask is the key. And if you memorize the place holder values. You have it made.

Just a little trivia for you all. With IPV6. There are enough addresses in IPV6 to assign an address to every atom in the Earth over 100 times. Or enough for every star in the observable universe with each star having 2 raised to the power of 52 addresses . So, I think we should never see an IPV8...

two connected routers have to be in the same network. Unless you are using subinterfaces for inter-vlan routing. But, they must be on the same network to communicate.

None of these work on Packet Tracer.

Why are the two pc's on the left represented with router symbols? I am confused.

Use the 2811 routers. Just add the serial interfaces under Physical tab. No other routers seem to allow tunnel interfaces on PT. I wasted a lot of time before I realized that. Hope that helps. Russ

Great video Dan. OSPF is the toughest for me to get to work. I have EIGRP and RIP down.

Even after I issued the Default route command, I could still only get 40% success rate on my pings to the loopback address on R1 from R2. What's up with that?

Why does a router even have the IP Default Gateway command if it doenst need it?

Wouldnt adding the logging synchronous command help out? That way they get to see the progress without the annoying overpainting of your commands.

I can do these in my sleep now. I have memorized the CIDR masks like my own name. And the magic number is so easy. Just do the place holders and that tells you the network increments.

you cant use the .255 in a subnet. Only 1-254. The 0 and the 255 are reserved. Unless you have it subnetted with a net mask that isnt classfull. Like 192.168.1.0/24.

It is the last 2 useable addresses. Routers are usually given the first address for the default-gateway. You can use any address you want to, but it makes it easier to assign end user's pc's with the first addresses than the last ones.

Or would getting rid of the access port vlan do the same thing to get inter vlan routing?

The "no auto summary" command makes EIGRP into a classless routing protocol. Otherwise it is a classfull protocol.

I had this all down and then made the mistake of not saving the configs on the routers. All to add a TFTP server to save the configs. After I turned off my router to add another Fastethernet port. Had to go back and do the routing all over again. What an idiot I was. But, it helped me troubleshoo...

What routing protocol do you have on the routers?

I would say that if you use the magic number method of subnetting... 256 bit encryption would be like using 10 to the 8th power better than 128. Since this is using decimal instead of binary numbers. So it would be 1,000,000,000 times stronger encryption. Just a quick guess.

I agree. I have watched some of these guys with their monotone voices and I had to stop watching before they got half way through.
